At Martin, our primary goal is to get our students 100% career-ready, so when we get a good news story – we love to share it.

Elise Fletcher studied her Diploma of Events (SIT50212) at the Martin Melbourne campus, and has since started working as an Administrative Events Assistant at EMG Events.

We got in touch with Elise to ask her all about her new role and find out how she’s enjoying the big, wide world of events!

What was the most valuable thing you learned?

“Martin gave me the opportunity to put everything I learned into practice. I had the chance to run events at the campus which was great experience; to be able to organize and run an event end to end was really valuable,” says Elise.

“Everything was valuable. I don’t think I can pick out one thing that is the most valuable!”

Did you undertake an internship while you were at Martin?

“I did! I completed an internship at Mission Australia. I was responsible for the reviewing and organising of an event which was held at Melbourne Zoo. The event was an amazing success and had about 2000 attendees.”

What are your top memories from your time at Martin?

  • “One would be being given the chance to run the Christmas event at Church Lane; we ended up getting lots of students to attend,” says Elise. “They all loved the activities – especially Santa!”
  • “Another would have to be being a part of (and president of) the CLSCG. I got to work alongside students from CSU to run social and cultural events at the campus.”
  • “Having lecturers with real industry experience.”
  • “Making lifelong friends.”

What is your favourite thing about working in this industry?

“The whole industry!” says Elise. “Events are my love and my passion and I’m so happy I have the chance to work in the industry.”

A big thank you to Martin Careers Advisor, Tyson Day…

“I wouldn’t be where I was without all your support and guidance. It’s nice to see that all the hard work I did in my diploma finally paid off, with my amazing academic award and a job,” says Elise.

“Sometimes it’s hard to see if what you are doing is really worth the time and the money, but nothing is a waste of time. Everything you do, you do for a reason.”

Thanks so much, Elise for sharing your story with us. The world of events is lucky to have someone as passionate as you!
