Martin graduate Reiz explains why a tech career will never be boring

Reiz Ariva-Hale studied a double diploma in web development and digital media technologies at the Martin Sydney campus, and is currently working for Study Group as a digital marketing coordinator.

We caught up with tech pro Reiz to hear about his study experience and even get some of his predictions for the future of the industry.

Most valuable thing you learned in your course?

Time management – to put it simply, showing up every day! – was the biggest takeaway for Reiz.

“It’s hard to be left behind when you show up every single time,” he says. “I started prioritizing my time (a lot better than I ever did in the past) early in the course last year.”

As a result, Reiz got all of his tasks done and could use the rest of his time productively. “I used my spare time reading and learning about the latest trends,” he says. “I continue to apply these skills to my life outside of college – so far it has been very helpful.”
What skills do you see as essential for working in the tech industry?

Reiz sums it up nicely for us with the below dot points – he’s very technical, after all.

Take note, future tech heads.

  • Coding
  • Mobile & cloud computing
  • UX design
  • Data visualisation

Reiz photoYour favourite thing about studying/working in this industry?

The work itself! Reiz finds himself learning new things every day.

“This industry is constantly moving fast; there’s always a new software to learn/use, a problem to solve, a new idea to come up with and figure out,” he says. “It never gets boring.”

What do you predict will be the next big movements in IT?

Reiz has some thoughts about the future of this fast-changing industry.

“I’m no expert, but I have to say that new careers will emerge based on innovations such as 3D printing, robotics, analytics and big data,” he says. “I also think that in 10 years, freelancers will make up the majority of the workforce.”

One thing’s certain; the future is looking good for the highly organized and forward-thinking Reiz.

Thanks Reiz for sharing with us!
